For a few years now, our cities have seen the return of Single Speed bikes, sometimes confused with Fixies, these urban fixed-gear bikes with a minimalist design. This bag is dedicated to this slow move. Back in stock around June '21.
CUBA LIBRE
Popular with both men and women, this our No.2 bestseller. Cuba Libre was one of the very first leathers our workshop adapted for these notebooks. Its name is inspired by Cuba, as the colour and appearance evoke Havana cigar wrappers. As standard, we opt for brass screws and light brown/golden lined paper that match the brown leather perfectly. Over time and depending on your usage, the edges may well become shiner and darker - this is perfectly natural as these areas are the first to get rubbed and knocked. Exposure to sunlight will define the leather’s unique patina. You may notice nuances ranging from dark brown to bronze and even black. And, the leather isn’t the only element that evolves. If you choose brass binding screws they will become less shiny and darker.
GARANCE
Our Garance red leather is the product of extensive pigment research for the (slightly crazy) challenge we set ourselves of paying homage to arty 1980s New York icon, The Manipulator magazine, by reinterpreting some of its most famous covers. The red leather we produced was so successful that we were compelled to make it a permanent feature in our collection. Red is without doubt the most fascinating and ambiguous colour. It is warm, energetic and penetrating. It evokes love and passion, but is also associated with blood, hell and lust. This vibrant shade leaves no place for indifference and this is its strength. With an oiled finish, the leather is liable to change, often quite dramatically. The edges will quickly become shiner and darker. Exposure to UV light will the determine the unique patina of the leather and, over time, the colour will darken to a rich Bordeaux with carmine hues..
GOLD
Just as popular with both sexes, this is our bestseller. Havana Gold was one of the very first leathers adapted by our workshop. The light, warm colour contrasts with the other shades in our collection. At first, the edges will become darker and smoother, as the patina develops. Depending on the amount of sunlight, the notebook will gradually transform from matte gold to a smoother, shiner, darker and more nuanced shade with Cognac tones. The leather of our oldest notebooks and diaries has evolved so much that the original shade is unrecognisable – remember, these are living objects! And, the leather is not the only element that changes – if you choose brass binding screws, they will become matte, coopery or even black, making it hard to guess the age. How old is the notebook? Was it your grandfather or your great-grand aunt Margaret’s? You can decide the story you want to tell.
